October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and events are being held which will increase that awareness and also raise funds for research and care charities.

In Sturminster Newton there will be a Craft Fair and Coffee Morning at the Exchange on 17th October. Funds raised from this event will be donated to Breakthrough Breast Cancer and Macmillan Cancer Care.

Dianne Benfield from Iwerne Minster chose the two charities. She celebrates her 60th birthday next January and instead of gifts, she's asking for donations and the Craft Fair should get her off to a good start. In the days leading up to her birthday on January 12th, she will be running and walking along a 60-mile stretch of the South West Coastal Path, raising sponsorship for the charities. Over the coming months, friends will be helping raise additional funds from other activities.

Last year, Dianne lost a friend to Breast Cancer. This year she's witnessed how early diagnosis can make all the difference.

"I think we should do all we can to help Breakthrough Breast Cancer fund their research. I've also heard from several families about the support they have received from the Macmillan Nurses, so I have decided to support them too."
