Deer Park Riding stables has been a part of Blandford Forum for over 40 years. Established in 1968, when Val Cowley bought her first pony and applied to the Crown Estate for permission to start a riding stables. Now after much hard work from Val, her family and a small number dedicated helpers the school has grown into one the most best loved establishments in the town.
For over 40 years the stables have been teaching riding skills to generations of local residents. Val remembers teaching the grandparents of the children who are currently learning to ride, even the ponies are the offspring of previous mounts!
Unfortunately, within the next 5 years, the Crown Estate has plans to move the school to purpose built premises, but have promised to keep the school within close proximity to the town. All of the staff and pupils at Deer Park are hoping that this important community facility continues to be available to the local schools and the Bryanston Riding for Disabled Association.
