Hello, I am Olivia Roberts, the Migraine Magician. I help many people to gradually reduce their symptoms of many conditions, like migraine, M.E, backache and Irritable Bowel Syndrome until they disappear.

I can help with a number of common complaints, including hiatus hernia. I thought a few of you might like to start the New Year with an unusual New Year's Resolution - one that will make you a happier person!

I show people how to do simple routines that re-educate their body not to develop a symptom. It takes a few weeks to master the art of not having a headache, but it only takes a few days to begin to reduce a hiatus hernia.

A hiatus hernia is a squashed stomach. I expect no one has ever told you that before! But it is. Your stomach is like a carrier bag that needs to jiggle around so that your food can begin to be digested. There is nothing happier than a jiggling around stomach. However, most girls, (and a few boys), begin a very had habit when they are teenagers.

Girls at the age of 12 fit nicely into their framework. However, as they begin to 'fill out' they can see in the mirror how much slimmer they look when they 'breathe in'. So, whenever they think about it, they breathe in. After a couple more years, they are pulling in their abdomen all of the time, and the organs that live there are pushed upwards, into the space where the stomach lives.

The stomach no longer has the room it likes to jiggle around. As the years roll on, the poor old stomach has less and less room. Until one day, the inside of the stomach is pushed up, right through the opening at the top of the stomach.

The opening to the stomach can no longer close off tightly now. Stomach acids sometimes spill out and burn the gullet, and it hurts. It takes three weeks for this to repair. All this time, the person feels uncomfortable and quite often another 'spill' of stomach acids occurs before it has healed.

So what can you do to change your situation? Well, it takes a little bit of work, and you have to keep on practicing this from time to time, even after the hiatus hernia has 'dropped' back.

This is what you do:

After every meal, sit down and relax for ten minutes. Allow your abdomen to push out like Humpty Dumpty. (I always put a cushion over it so no-one else can see!) It's ideal if you are in the car too.

That's all there is to it. You have to do this for as long as you can, ideally ten minutes before you pull it back in again. If you can do this after every meal, within a week you will start to feel better and within three weeks you will be able to eat well and not have awful acid indigestion. What a great New Year's resolution!
