A team of sculptors have been busy in the small village of Shapwick. Led by award winning sculptor, Adrian Powell, the group have created a new column for the church.

Ed Closier, Henry Gray, Philippa Hammond, James Wheeler and Ed Shaffer created the column, incorporating themes which included sea life, birds, plants and of course, people. Their work was created during the village's first ever arts festival. During the last three months, Philippa has also been responsible for the recent stone replacement and repointing work on the bell tower.

It was just over a year ago that Father Alistair Stewart Sykes had the idea of holding the Arts at St Bart's Festival Weekend and since than a team of eight has worked hard to bring the idea to life.

Money raised has gone towards the continued renovation and refurbishment of St Bartholomew's. St Bart's is much more than just a church, it is the only community cetnre in the village. This lovely old 12th century building is renowned for hosting many and varied events for villagers and visitors alike. For the community, it is the largest facility available to host events in the village.

In addition to the stone carving there was also an art exhibition, craft fair, live art, children's storytelling, hog roast, barbeque, home-made cakes and music from the Stour Valley Stompers.
